The folding sight with spring mechanism can be folded down when not in use and quickly flipped up again when required, and was developed as a space-saving backup sight for Picatinny rail systems. In English, this design is referred to as a dual aperture rear sight. The special feature is the presence of two differently sized openings (apertures) integrated into one unit:Small aperture (precision aperture): The smaller opening is used for precise shots at longer distances or in bright daylight. It maximizes depth of field.
Large aperture (combat / low-light aperture): By flipping the small insert out of the way, the larger opening is exposed. This is used for rapid target acquisition at short distances or in poor lighting conditions.
